What are similarities between PA and Cults?

An Edmonton mom - Carla Brown - has been in the local/national press a bit over the past few months regarding an Edmonton organization - ESAMA (the Edmonton Society Against Mind Abuse).

She became involved with this group because of her experience with a cult in Northern Alberta.  Carla now helps families who's children are mesmerized into joining these cultic groups.   As quiet as it seems because we don't read about these things every day - her groups is active and she has a CableTV "deal" in the works.

By coincidence, I have encountered a cross-over between cults "psychological manipulation" and the damaging behaviour of Parental Alienation.  Dr. Amy Baker (before she was completed her book "Adult Children Of Parental Alienation Syndrome : Breaking the ties that bind") wrote an interesting academic article about how Parental Alienation was like "A Cult of Parenthood".

This is an opportunity to hear from Dr. Reay on "Family Matters" via BlogTalk Radio.  Dr Reay is "right next door" in beautiful Penticton, BC and has developed a workbook to help parents deal with Parental Alienation.
It is hoped that some aspects of PA will be included in the new "Family Law Act" being developed in B.C.

New name

This is to initiate a new name - PAAN or Parental Alienation Awareness Network of Alberta - due to concern about losing CRA Charitable status of former affiliation PAAO or Parental Alienation Awareness Organization - if we engaged in any political advocacy or formed a support group.  There was also the matter of what value exactly PAAO was providing to Albertan's except for an international "franchising" operation.

I have come to believe that there is more demand for political action than a support group - and we do not receive any funding from PAAO I do not see the point in being restricted by their concerns or operational parameters.

Hence PAAN!

Please get in touch on any topic you wish - and tell me if you plan to hold an event for PAAD (Parental Alienation Awareness Day) in week of April 25, 2012.

Regards,
